Rahul Meena, 23, showed calmness and composure during questioning and stated that he went to the IRS officer’s home in Delhi’s Kailash Hills to get money. Meena, who brutally killed the 22-year-old daughter of an IRS officer at their home in Delhi, has shown no signs of remorse. He told investigators that if the victim had given him money, the rape and murder wouldn’t have occurred. He said he went to the bureaucrat’s house only for money.
He claimed, “If didi had given the money, this would not have happened,” in a matter-of-fact tone.
He also told police that the family treated him well and gave him a monthly salary of Rs 20,000, excluding bonuses. He said he entered the house by falsely claiming that the victim’s mother, whom he called “aunty,” had called him to give money. His exact words were, “Aunty ne bulaya tha for money.”
Meena has been remanded in police custody for four days after being produced before the Saket court.
The police said that custody is important to reconstruct the sequence of events, check forensic and digital evidence, and find out the full motive behind the crime.
Details of the crime have shocked the national capital.
Meena worked at the bureaucrat’s home for nearly eight months before being fired six weeks ago due to complaints of financial misconduct. He was reportedly in heavy debts and had a problem with online games.
Moreover, Meena was familiar with the four-layered security system of the victim’s home, including locks on each floor and the lift.
To get to the room where the victim was, he had to unlock at least four locks, three of which had passcodes. He knew the codes and where spare keys for servants were stored.
He entered the rooftop study room where the victim was studying.
Her parents were at the gym. Meena had been waiting outside and entered after the IRS officer and his wife left for their morning activities.
He stayed inside for almost an hour.
He first asked the victim for money. When she refused, he hit her with a lamp and another heavy object, causing her to bleed and become unconscious. Then, he strangled her, raped her while she was unconscious, dragged her down the stairs to the safe room, and used her blood-soaked fingers to open the locker. However, the biometrics didn’t work, which investigators believe might be due to her blood circulation stopping or the blood preventing her fingerprints from being detected.
Police suspect the victim had already died by then.
He used a screwdriver to open the locker, took cash and jewelry, and put them in a bag he found in the house. He changed into the victim’s brother’s pants and slippers after noticing blood on his own clothes. Then, he left the body on the floor and fled.
The postmortem report confirmed that the victim died due to strangulation after an assault.
It noted multiple abrasions and contusions on her arms, hands, and legs, along with a nasal bone fracture. Her clothes were torn, and she was found naked from the waist down.
Before coming to Delhi on April 22, Rahul Meena had already raped his neighbor in Alwar for 12 hours the previous night.
Delhi Police formed 12 teams to track down the Rajasthan native and caught him from a hotel in Dwarka, Delhi.
