It’s 09:00 on a Tuesday morning in Felixstowe, and the bass is thumping. Instead of a hangover, attendees are sipping flat whites and dancing to ’90s hits. This isn’t a dream; it’s a new “Coffee and Clubbing” event taking over local high street venues.
The trend, already popular in Berlin and New York, has landed in Suffolk. It offers a low-stakes alternative to late-night clubbing, targeting those who want the energy without the 3 a.m. regret.
Daylight DJ Sets
Vanessa Fullerton-Batten, who moved to the town from Hertfordshire earlier this year, started the pop-up series with her husband, Ben Kay. Kay, a DJ with 30 years of experience, says the daytime setting changes the vibe entirely.
“You can see people, so you can see them smiling and dancing,” Kay said. “It feels more innocent.” The crowd is mostly Gen X-ers in their 40s and 50s, people who might feel out of place in a dark, packed nightclub but thrive in a bright, social space.
No Hangover, Just Vibes
The first two events were held at Cuppa, a local coffee shop. The one-hour sessions are designed to be accessible. You don’t need to be a seasoned raver. You just need to show up.
Local fitness owner Susannah Hinchey supports the movement, noting that moving to music releases happy hormones without the physical toll of a night out. “It just feels really, really good,” she said. The plan is to expand the series to other venues, including bakeries and bars, with a monthly schedule and an upcoming afternoon session.
