In fact, a rumor suggests Intel has reached a deal with Apple to manufacture semiconductors for its gadgets. Intel, which was once a big partner for the iPhone-maker, might help Apple lessen its need on TSMC.

Intel will make Apple CPUs soon Both corporations have completed the critical part of the merger, a Wall Street Journal report claims. Intel was formerly one of Apple’s most important partners until the iPhone-maker migrated to its own Apple Silicon chipsets for its handsets. Apple’s newest chips are produced by TSMC, but due to the AI growth, TSMC’s newest fabrication facilities are in great demand from businesses like NVIDIA and AMD, who make sophisticated processors for AI. The deal will help Apple reduce dependence on TSMC and diversify its manufacturing base.

The acquisition should also benefit Intel and the U.S. federal government, one of Intel’s biggest stockholders. But much more on the involvement of the US federal government in the offer later. For Intel, the partnership might provide steady demand from Apple, one of the world’s largest consumer electronics companies. It is also anticipated to improve Intel’s internet image and improve its manufacturing service, which has lagged behind TSMC.

Soon Intel was a big participant in the chip making business. But when smartphones caught on, the chipmaker failed to keep up with Qualcomm—and by extension ARM—in the mobile chip arena, opening the door for competition. The chip firm grappled with another big strike when AMD began pulling PC CPU market share away from the corporation with its Ryzen CPUs.

Why did Apple cease using Intel chips?

Apple first introduced Intel-powered MacBooks in 2006. By 2010, however, the iPhone-maker had really begun building its very own processors, beginning with the Apple A4, which debuted with the first iPad and apple iphone 4.

Apple encountered manufacturing delays, heat problems, and performance interest in Intel CPUs, and began to phase them out from its products in 2020. The transaction would reunite both corporations years after Apple broke away from Intel-designed cpus for its Mac computer systems and switched to its own very own bespoke silicon.

Role of the United States federal government in the discussions
When Lip-Bu Tan took over as chief executive officer of the firm, the US federal government, which changed into one of the major investors in Intel, has really apparently performed a vital function in pushing Apple to the bargaining table. The Wall Street Journal record claims that United claims Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick frequently satisfied Apple executives over the previous year to persuade the company to get back into association with Intel. We are generally and we have been helping Intel”, the person told Reuters, adding that the effort was not because of the equities risk in Intel, but since the company is a key United States chip maker. We have genuinely been trying to drum up business for Intel,” he said.

The Apple/Intel alliance is also expected to promote the Donald Trump management’s goal of bringing more chip manufacture to the United States and strengthening home manufacturing.

Meanwhile, Intel has also teamed up with NVIDIA and Elon Musk. The business has allegedly struck a $5 billion deal with NVIDIA to build computer and data centre CPUs, and is also building processors for Musk’s Terafab project for Tesla, SpaceX and xAI.
