A lady has said that she was gang-raped by the driver and conductor aboard a sleeper bus in Delhi. The purported incident happened on May 12, police sources said, and both suspects have been taken into custody.
An FIR was registered at the Rani Bagh Police Station under several provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) including 64(1) for rape, 70(1) for gang rape and 3(5) for common purpose.The suspects have been arrested and the investigation continues, a police source said, adding the bus has been seized.
The bus was said to have unlawful tinted windows and not possess the requisite emergency exits. The incident happened while she was walking home from her work in the factory.
She went up to one of the suspects at the bus terminal at B-Block in Saraswati Vihar and asked him what time it was. He allegedly pulled her into the bus where he allegedly assaulted her and threw her out of the bus.
After her medical evaluation, the police recorded her statement and lodged the FIR. The arrests were made soon after the procedures were completed.
The bus driver and conductor are now being questioned and evidence from the bus is being examined. Forensic and medical results are likely to be the key to the inquiry.
Authorities are trying to piece together a sequence of events and are investigating if the bus was in operation at the time and whether there were any other passengers on board during the suspected crime.
