US Arrests Relatives of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani: Key Developments

Arrest of Soleimani’s Family Members in the US

The United States has confirmed the arrest of two relatives of late Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani. According to the US State Department, his niece Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter have been taken into custody by immigration authorities.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that their lawful permanent residency (green card status) has been revoked. The two individuals are currently being held by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and face possible deportation.

    Dispute Over Allegations

The arrests have sparked controversy, with Narjes Soleimani strongly denying any connection between the detained individuals and her father. She described the US claims as “false” and accused authorities of fabricating allegations against her family.

    Background on Immigration Status

According to the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Hamideh Soleimani Afshar entered the United States on a tourist visa in 2015. She was later granted asylum in 2019 and received a green card in 2021.

Officials claim that during her naturalisation application in 2025, she disclosed multiple trips to Iran. The DHS argues that these visits contradict her asylum claims, suggesting potential fraud.

Her daughter, Sarinasadat Hosseiny, also entered the US in 2015 on a student visa. She was granted asylum in 2019 and later received a green card in 2023.

    US Accusations and Security Concerns

The State Department has accused Soleimani Afshar of supporting the Iranian government and spreading what it described as “regime propaganda” on social media. Additionally, her husband has reportedly been barred from entering the United States, although his identity has not been disclosed.

    Legacy of Qasem Soleimani

Qasem Soleimani was one of Iran’s most influential military figures, serving as the head of the elite Quds Force. He played a key role in shaping Iran’s military strategy across the Middle East.

He was killed in 2020 in a US airstrike near Baghdad airport, ordered by then US President Donald Trump. His death significantly escalated tensions between Iran and the United States.

    Renewed Political Context

In a recent address, Donald Trump referenced the operation that killed Soleimani, describing him as a dangerous yet highly capable figure. Trump also suggested that Iran’s current position in ongoing conflicts might have been stronger if Soleimani were still alive.

Conclusion: A Controversial Move Amid Rising Tensions

The arrest of Soleimani’s relatives comes at a time of heightened geopolitical tensions between the US and Iran. While US authorities cite immigration violations and national security concerns, the move has been strongly rejected by Soleimani’s family.

The situation continues to unfold, raising questions about diplomatic relations, immigration enforcement, and the broader implications for US-Iran ties.
