Following the death of 23-year-old Pandav Kumar—a native of Khagaria, Bihar, residing in Delhi—this matter has transcended the scope of a mere criminal case; it has now ignited a fierce political controversy in Bihar. Rhetoric between the ruling party and the opposition has intensified in the wake of the incident. Meanwhile, the victim’s family is demanding justice.
Addressing this matter, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary made a major announcement, pledging financial assistance totaling ₹8 lakh to the deceased’s family. A statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office described the death of Pandav Kumar—a laborer and Khagaria resident—in a firing incident in the Jafarpur Kalan area of Delhi’s Dwarka district as “extremely tragic.”
The government has issued directives to provide ₹4 lakh from the Department of Labour Resources and another ₹4 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Expressing his condolences to the family, the Chief Minister affirmed that the government stands firmly with them during this hour of grief.
Meanwhile, Rajesh Verma, an MP from the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), arrived in Delhi and met with the victim’s family. During the meeting, he assured the family of every possible assistance and pledged to ensure they receive justice. Chirag Paswan also took to the social media platform ‘X’ to condemn the incident, describing it as “highly reprehensible.”
Chirag Paswan asserted that under no circumstances can such actions—which amount to taking the law into one’s own hands—be tolerated. He further informed that the party has provided financial assistance of ₹2 lakh to the victim’s family. Additionally, he stated that he has spoken with the Delhi Police Commissioner to demand strict action against the perpetrators.
He also added that, if necessary, the matter would be escalated to the Union Home Minister to ensure the family receives justice and to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
On the other hand, Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav launched a direct attack on the BJP regarding this issue. He alleged that Pandav Kumar was shot simply because he was a Bihari. Tejashwi argued that since the BJP is in power—from the local administration in Delhi where the incident occurred all the way up to the Central Government—the onus of accountability lies squarely with them.
Tejashwi Yadav further accused BJP leaders of maintaining a conspicuous silence on issues concerning the people of Bihar. His statement has further intensified the political heat in the state. Sharp reactions regarding this matter are also being witnessed on social media.
However, hitting back at Tejashwi’s statement, Chirag Paswan asserted that such remarks tarnish the image of Bihar. He stated that the Leader of the Opposition should speak with a sense of responsibility and refrain from maligning the state.
This entire episode has once again raised questions regarding the safety and security of laborers and youths from Bihar working in Delhi. People want to know what steps will ultimately be taken to prevent such incidents and how soon the victim’s family will receive justice.
