The Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested a 22-year-old man from Bhubaneswar on suspicion of being linked to terrorism, posting radical content online, and receiving money from abroad.

Police said on Saturday that the Delhi Police Special Cell had arrested a 22-year-old man from Bhubaneswar on suspicion of being linked to terrorist groups and posting anti-national slogans on social media.

Police said that Sheikh Imran was arrested in a rented room in the Ganga Nagar area of Unit VI in Bhubaneswar.

Police say the case started in Delhi, where they were looking into the online activity of a number of people who were suspected of spreading radical content on sites like Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Signal. Police found their way to Odisha after questioning suspects in Delhi and looking at the digital communications they had with each other.

The police said that Imran was out of work and had supposedly joined a closed online network that shared content that was meant to make people more religiously extreme.

“Imran is said to have kept in touch with groups in Pakistan while he was in Delhi for the last two to three years.” “Digital records and financial transactions are being looked at to see how far the suspected links go,” an officer said, but they didn’t want to be named.

The officer said that Imran moved to Bhubaneswar about six to seven months ago.

However, the police made it clear that there is no direct link between him and any specific terror event yet.

The SDJM Court in Bhubaneswar saw Imran and gave him a transit remand so he could be moved to Delhi for more questioning.

Sheikh Amir, his father, said that his son had trouble in school and then worked low-paying jobs, like delivering food. “He had failed his matriculation exam and was looking for work. “We never thought anything like this would happen,” he said.
