Review of the Mercedes-Benz G450d AMG Line: The G-Class, now with diesel, makes sense for India.

There aren’t many cars in the world that fit into more than one category. One of these is the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. It’s more than just an SUV. It’s more than just a fancy car. It shows that you are there, that you are important, and that the design has stayed almost the same for more than 40 years.

And now, with the new-generation G450d AMG Line, Mercedes-Benz has done something very cool for India. It has added a diesel engine to the modern G-Class lineup, which makes it not only more desirable but also more useful.

What Is Unique About The G450d?

The G450d has a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder OM656M diesel engine that makes 270 kW and 750 Nm of torque.

Those numbers look good on paper. But with a car like the G-Class, it’s not just about the numbers; it’s also about how that power is delivered. And this is where the diesel engine really shines.

The G450d has 750 Nm of torque, which makes it easy to drive. It doesn’t feel rushed or strained; it just moves with power. The engine feels completely at ease whether you’re driving in city traffic or on the highway.

There is also 48-volt mild hybrid technology with a built-in starter generator that gives the car an extra boost of power and makes it more efficient. It makes the drive even smoother, giving you a more refined experience than you would expect from a big diesel SUV.

The power delivery is smooth when paired with Mercedes-Benz’s 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission. You can barely tell when the gears change, and the SUV feels stable no matter where you drive it. This diesel setup makes a strong case for Indian conditions, where there are long distances, a lot of different types of traffic, and a need for high torque.

The AMG Line, but not the AMG Complexity

The AMG Line package is included with the G450d, which is a big difference.

You get the flashy looks of AMG, but not the full-on performance complexity.

These include silver chrome grille accents, new bumpers, and 20-inch AMG twin-spoke alloy wheels. The G-Class now looks sharper, more modern, and even more powerful.

But it doesn’t need the same level of commitment that a high-performance AMG version would.

    This balance is very important.

Many buyers are drawn to the G-Class because of how it looks and how it makes them feel, not necessarily how well it performs. The AMG Line gives you a better look without making owning the car more difficult.

The G-Class has a simple motto: “The G stays the G.” And you can see that right away.

The boxy shape, standing up straight, and spare wheel on the back are all still the same. It’s one of the most well-known shapes in the world of cars. Most SUVs these days are trying to be more aerodynamic and have more curves, but the G-Class does the opposite. And that’s exactly why it keeps getting attention. The G-Class stands out on the road in India, which is important.

It looks tough and almost like it could be useful. It’s clear that it’s a modern Mercedes-Benz on the inside. The G450d comes with the newest MBUX NTG7 infotainment system, which has a touchscreen and works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto without wires.

You can choose Nappa leather upholstery, MANUFAKTUR trims, and 64-color ambient lighting, all of which make the cabin experience much better. The Burmester 3D surround sound system with 18 speakers and 760 watts makes the cabin feel even more luxurious.

The G-Class experience is all about the mix of an old-school outside and a modern luxury inside. It might have been hard to use this car every day because it was so big and heavy. But Mercedes-Benz has made sure that the G450d comes with a full set of driver assistance systems.

These are some of them: Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Blind Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, and a camera system that can see all around. These features make the G-Class much easier to drive in cities than you might think based on its size. It still feels big and needs attention, but it’s not scary anymore.

The G-Class has always been more about showing off than doing anything in India.

Yes, it can go off-road very well. Yes, it can go places that most SUVs can’t. But in reality, most owners will never take it off-road. Instead, it pulls up to hotels, events, and fancy places, making a statement wherever it goes.

And this is where the G450d fits in perfectly.

The diesel engine makes it more useful. The AMG Line makes things look better. And the whole package makes the G-Class more appealing to Indian buyers than ever before.

    What Could Have Been Better?
The G-Class isn’t perfect, but that’s part of what makes it unique. In tight urban areas, the size can still seem big. The AMG Line adds style, but people who want the best performance will still choose full AMG models.

But these are not dealbreakers. They are part of what makes the G-Class what it is.

    Who Should Get The G450d?

The G450d AMG Line is not for someone who wants a regular luxury SUV. It’s for a certain type of buyer.

Someone who values being there over being subtle.

Someone who likes design that lasts.

Someone who wants the G-Class experience but with a powertrain that is easier to use and more useful.

This is also a good choice for people who want to get into the G-Class lineup because it is one of the easier-to-find versions of the G-Wagon in India. And most importantly, it’s for someone who knows that this car isn’t about where you go, but how it makes you feel when you get there.

    Final Decision
The Mercedes-Benz G450d AMG Line doesn’t try to change the G-Class. It doesn’t change it; it improves it.

Mercedes-Benz has made the G-Class more useful for India by adding a diesel engine, modern hybrid technology, and design elements inspired by AMG.

It still has the same iconic silhouette. It still has the same presence. But now it also makes more sense to live with. And in a market where practicality and desire often clash, the G450d brings them together like never before.
